From Dream to Real – Business Heroine Visits New Jersey

Anne Perry and Dr. Ren (Business Heroine Magazine)What do you do when “someday” is no longer cutting it, and the business you’ve been dreaming up wants to exist NOW? That’s exactly the question that summoned entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs from a variety of backgrounds and industries to Montclair, New Jersey, for a Business Heroine workshop, “From Dream to Real” with founder Anne Perry.

The event was held at a beautiful estate (affectionately known to the Montclair locals as “the purple mansion”) and hosted by Rebecca Irby, a documentary filmmaker and leader in peace education. As a graduate of Business Heroine Academy, Rebecca called the gathering together in order to spread the movement of soul-fueled entrepreneurship in her own community.

Lauren Laurino, lovingly known as “America’s Holistic Sweetheart” and host of “Think Healthy with Dr. Ren,” interviewed Anne along with several of the participants for a feature episode broadcast on UnionTV34 Public Access Television. Enjoy the exclusive interview…

Dr. Ren: So what is a Business Heroine? How do you become a Business Heroine?

Anne Perry: Our tagline says it all – A Business Heroine is an entrepreneur who says she will and does.

Perhaps you’ve been in a 9-5 career and you realize you’ve been giving your best energy and effort to building someone else’s dream instead of your own. You feel like having your life be the leftover scraps at the end of that day isn’t cutting it anymore. Maybe you’re starting to think that this 9-5 hamster wheel is a bit of a hoax, and that maybe there’s another way to do life. You might want to have the kind of lifestyle that comes from designing life on your own terms.

You might be thinking, “What about building a business that’s based on my passion, that’s based on my soul being expressed in the world, that is me giving my gifts in the world to make a difference?”

If that’s you, you’re a Business Heroine. And, when you’re wanting to create something new in your life, it’s just about making a decision and going for it. It’s not necessarily easy but, if you break it down, it really is that simple.

“This seminar helped me break through and see that I can do what I believe I can do.”

– Kim Cuozzo Buchanan | Kimmy’s Kakes

Dr Ren: And that’s exactly what you were teaching here today, teaching how to take your dreams to reality when it comes to business. You even have a Business Heroine Academy, right?

Anne Perry: We do have a Business Heroine Academy!

The Academy is designed as six chapters of your Heroine’s journey that take you from “this is an idea in my head and I know I want this” to rolling it out step-by-step, to “presto bingo, it exists in the world!”

I’m kind of joking about “presto bingo”, but I’m kind of not because again, it’s all about making a decision and doing it. It’s taking an inspired idea from the ethers, and pulling it down into your mental realm, and making a decision, and putting it into the physical realm through aligned actions. It’s really, truly as simple as that.

And, I just have to say Dr. Ren, you’re such a beautiful example of what a Business Heroine is. You went for it, you have mad wild success and it’s just because you said you would and you did.

Dr Ren: And then we empower others to do the same! So I really thank you, Anne, because you’re really one of those people who I look up to for inspiration.

Anne Perry: Thank you! You know, the empowerment piece you’re speaking to here is the community component, and rising together. It’s no longer a dog-eat-dog world. Competition is sort of old school. What about collaboration? What about building each other up, seeing the best in each other and inspiring that in each other? When we find a community like that, anything is possible. My hope is to spread that way of being through Business Heroine.

“I enjoyed myself immensely. It was so powerful and enlightening”

– Cecelia | Fashion Designer & Seamstress

Dr. Ren: A lot of times throughout the workshop today, you mentioned being from “the school of hard knocks.” The people that I choose and present are real relatable and approachable – like she just didn’t get here overnight, she’s not born into it. Tell us a little bit about your journey.

Anne Perry: I didn’t always know that I was an entrepreneur.

Sometimes I say “what sucks is our strongest motivator.” I basically discovered I was an entrepreneur during one of one of those times when what wasn’t working in my life and what didn’t feel good was a big motivator. It was that seed again – the idea that maybe there’s a different way to do this life.

I left my job and started my very first business, an energy healing practice, and I just didn’t know what I was doing. I got a few a clients and I loved the work, but I didn’t know what I was doing as far as business goes and I started falling behind on bills. I started falling behind on mortgage payments.

I just remember one day when I was like, “Why is this so hard? All I want to do is contribute my gifts to the world. I just want to make a difference and I would like to survive in return. Is that so much to ask?”

One day I was walking around the corner to the coffee shop to get a cup of coffee and just had this moment of presence where I thought, “I’m in this situation, it’s way overcomplicated, my life is laced with so much struggle and why is that?”

“What if I put all these obstacles in my own way? What if I created this struggle in my life somehow? And, if that’s true, then couldn’t I create something new? Couldn’t I invent a different story?”

It was really on that day that I decided to rewrite my own story. It’s not like it happened overnight – there was a lot of trial and error, a lot of tears staining my pillow throughout the years, but ultimately, that’s why I created Business Heroine Academy.

It’s what I wish I had had all along. I knew I was passionate and, if I just knew what to do, I would do it. Basically, my tear-stained pillow and decades of struggling turned into “Come with me sister, we’ve got your back, one step at a time, and we’ll get there.”
