Why I don’t Believe in Trends

Style is very personal. It has nothing to do with fashion. Fashion is over quickly. Style is forever. ~ Ralph Lauren

Well said, Ralph. This is exactly why I DO NOT believe in trends and nor do I endorse shopping sprees. Yes, that may be the antithesis of most stylists, but I’m 100% OK with that.

Let me explain. In my past as a product merchandiser for a big fashion company, part of my job was tracking trends and what our competitors were doing.

Many of those ‘trends’ we still see.  Cobalt blue is a big color this year and it was a big color last year. I couldn’t tell you how many times I heard ‘and then we’re going on a Safari for Spring 1 delivery.’ Skinny jeans were first a trend and now they’re a perfected closet staple.

We’ll see if the bra-let and crop tops will have staying power. I will say that this incarnation of crop tops are at least a lot more stylish than the baby doll tops we saw in the late 90’s/00’s. But still, not for every body type or every age.

So that’s why I DON’T believe in trends. However, I DO believe in STYLE – a style that is uniquely yours. Inimitable.

I DO believe in having the confidence to go into your closet morning after morning after morning to create a perfect outfit to compliment your goals for the day.

I DO believe that you can probably toss half of your wardrobe in a session with an expert stylist and still come out ahead with more outfits than ever before in addition to the ability to maximize what we keep.

I DO believe that you need to streamline your style and wardrobe so that you can focus on what you need to do to be a bright light in this world and do what you do best, whatever that is.

THIS is why I DO what I do.
