The Biggest Lie About Success

Liz Dialto (Business Heroine Magazine)

“The only place success comes before work is in the dictionary.” – Unknown

“Follow your passion, be prepared to work hard and sacrifice, and, above all, don’t let anyone limit your dreams.” – Donovan Bailey

We’ve all heard quotes like this. The ones that have truth in them but also imply that you must kill yourself to be successful. That you must prioritize your career over your family, your health, or your social life if you “really want to make it!” OR that there isn’t enough success to go around for everybody.

It’s all a hot load of BS.

The biggest lie about success is that it has to be a struggle.

It can be a struggle.

There may be struggling involved.

But when we have the expectation that we’re going to struggle,

WE CREATE WAY MORE STRUGGLE THAN IS NECESSARY.

The struggle is optional, not required.

Some of the ways we do this are:

-Insisting on going at it alone and not asking for help.

-Trying to figure everything out ourselves, instead of seeking out those who have already done what we want to do and done it well, and learning from them.

-Allowing our negative thoughts to run rampant.

-Trying too hard to control everything instead of slowing down so we can actually see the situation clearly and allow ourselves to feel through it as well as think through it.

And there’s more but those are large culprits.

This isn’t just about business, though this mentality is pervasive in the entrepreneurship world.

I hear this a lot from moms in my groups and programs. I’m not a mom and I do believe it’s one of the toughest jobs on Earth. I also know a handful of moms who do it with ease and it’s not because they have more money, more help or more resources than others. It’s 100% based on their attitude and approach.

I used to hear it often from fitness clients when I worked in that world.

And I hear it a lot from women in my community who believe they can “have it all” – career, family, social life, body-love, self-acceptance…they just don’t know how and it’s overwhelming.

Success and balance is about embodying all the beauty of feminine power without denying that we also have masculine energy. That’s how we get things done. We need both – our understanding of them is just traditionally a little out of whack and women all over the globe are craving to better understand, love and trust themselves.

Life is really good. She wants you to thrive. Everything you’ve ever needed has always been inside of you.
