Understanding the Value of Saying No
There are so many exciting benefits to being able to say no, I can’t even begin to cover them here. In fact, I think there are so many benefits to saying no, I could write several books on the subject.
If you cringe at the idea of saying no, you may shy away from the thought that there is value in saying no, but stick with me for just a little bit and see if some of this starts to make sense.
Let’s look at a few of the benefits and side effects of saying no.
I personally think that the number one value you receive is RESPECT.
Respect from other people as they come to learn that you have boundaries, which you will do what you say, because you are not just agreeing to anything because you don’t want to say no.
Respect for yourself. Respecting yourself starts with knowing that you are worth it. You have the right to say no, set boundaries, not let people take advantage of your generosity, and you know that you will do what you say.
As you begin respecting yourself more, your self confidence increases. You can weed out the activities and commitments you don’t really want and the ones that don’t move you forward to where you want to go.
As you begin to have more self confidence in saying no, you stand up for yourself. You don’t agree to do stuff just because you don’t want to say no. You also don’t let people bully you.
The stress level begins to decrease because you are not constantly on the go, you don’t feel like you are being taken advantage of or worried about what other people with think of you. The really big value; you have more time for you.
Having more time for what you want to do in your life, allows you to move forward, try new things, have fun, have time for recreation, relationships, and your projects.
