To be your most powerful self when working at your desk or conducting business meetings, you should face your Power Position or Sheng Qi. What is it and how do I find mine – you ask? It is pretty simple so let’s get started.

According to Classical Chinese Feng Shui, each person has a set of auspicious or positive directions and a set of inauspicious or negative positions. This is called your Life Gua or Ming Gua and it is calculated based on your birth year.

How to determine your Life Gua?

For the men:

• Add up the last two digits of your birth year
• Reduce them to a single digit
• Subtract that number from 10
• The result is your Life Gua

Example:
1954 (after Feb. 4 when Chinese New Year changes, born earlier refer to previous year)
5+4=9
10-9=1
Your Life Gua is #1

For the ladies:

• Add up the last two digits of your birth year
• Reduce them to a single digit
• Add 5
• The result is your Life Gua

Example:
1974 (after Feb. 4 when Chinese New Year changes, born earlier refer to previous year)
7+4=11
1+1=2
2+5=7
Your Life Gua is #7

*Note that for #5 men – you are #2 & #5 women – you are #8.

Now that you know your Life Gua Number, I have provided your Sheng Qi (life generating) direction for you.

#1 – SOUTHEAST
#2 – NORTHEAST
#3 – SOUTH
#4 – NORTH
#5 – there is no 5 remember (refer to note above)
#6 – WEST
#7 – NORTHWEST
#8 – SOUTHWEST
#9 – EAST

Now that you know your Sheng Qi, how do you use it? Sitting at your office desk, you want to face your Sheng Qi direction for personal empowerment. When you are in bed, you do not want your head facing your Sheng Qi, it will be too active and will keep you awake all night. I am only addressing the power position and not the other seven directions of your Life Gua.

Each person also has a good health, relationship and feel good direction as well as four negative directions. A Feng Shui practitioner should address this during a consultation. But at least you can get started now in your office to power it up!
